LHC rejects police report on Sh Rasheed’s ‘kidnapping’ as unsatisfactory

RAWALPINDI: Lahore High Court’s Rawalpindi bench declared police report on alleged kidnap of Awami Muslim League (Chief and former Minister Sheikh Rasheed Ahmed unsatisfactory.

Justice Sadaqat Ali Khan conducted hearing on petition filed for recovery of Sheikh Rasheed, his nephew Sheikh Shakir and staff member Sheikh Imran.

Court dismissed Rawalpindi police report as unsatisfactory and summoned RPO in person on September 26.  Rawalpindi CPO said Rasheed was arrested in Islamabad. “We have no knowledge about it,” he said.

Expressing its surprise, court said how it could be possible that police did not know about arrest. Court further remarked that police report expressing ignorance was flawed. Court rejected report and directed RPO Khurram Ali to appear on September 26 along with relevant details.

Evacuee Trust Property Board (sealed Lal Haveli used by Awami Muslim League Chief Sheikh Rasheed Ahmed. Police and FIA personnel assisted ETPB in sealing place.

ETPB Deputy Administrator Asif Khan completed operation and sealed main doors of Lal Haveli. Former Interior Minister’s office and passage leading to main hall of Lal Haveli were sealed. During operation, property used by senior politician and seven units including place used for political meetings were also sealed.
