LHC orders action against involved in stubble burning

LAHORE: Lahore High Court (LHC) ordered Punjab government to take action against those involved in stubble burning in province while hearing a case on smog. Some farmers clear their agricultural fields by burning residue that is left on land after harvesting to prepare land for next round of seeding.
It is one of biggest contributors to air pollution. Hearing case LHC Judge, Justice Shahid Karim expressed dissatisfaction over steps being taken by Lahore Development Authority. Court while ordering Punjab Chief Secretary to take action against stubble burning ruled that DC of district will be held responsible where stubble burn gets reported.
LHC also ordered LDA to take concrete steps to end encroachment from city and ordered to fine Rs 2,000 over illegal parking. Court has also summoned CEO of Lahore Parking Company on next hearing of case. Earlier, Justice Shahid Karim ordered fine of Rs 50,000 over stubble burning in province and had instructed authorities to take action against people who set crops on fire.
