LHC bench hearing petition against constitution of second JIT in Model Town incident stands dissolved

LAHORE: Larger bench of Lahore High Court (LHC) hearing petition challenging constitution of second JIT regarding Model Town incident has been dissolved. Justice Ali Zia Bajwa, member of bench has recused from hearing petition. Justice Ali Zia Bajwa said he could not become part of bench due to personal reasons.

A five members bench of LHC presided over by Chief Justice (CJ) LHC Amir Bhatti took up case for hearing yesterday. CJ Amir Bhatti said new larger bench will be constituted in connection with next hearing. Petitioner Khurram Rafiq prayed court to adjourn hearing as he wanted to hire new lawyer. He requested court to give time to hire new lawyer in place of Azam Nazir Tarar. Advocate General Punjab Ahmad Owais and counsel for Awami Tehreek Azhar Siddique advocate also appeared in court.

Azhar Siddique took plea one judge who is included in bench has remained lawyer in this case. CJ LHC remarked this matter is in knowledge of court. New bench will be constituted before next hearing. Central petition has been filed by police personnel Rizwan Qadir and Khurram Rafiq. Court adjourned hearing of case till November 29.
