KARACHI: Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has once again postponed Local Government (LG) polls in Karachi scheduled for October 23, 2022. In a meeting on elections following request of Sindh government, ECP has indefinitely postponed polls.
Earlier, Sindh government for third time urged ECP to postpone LB elections in Karachi due to lack of security. Letter stating that Karachi is most populous and a densely populated division/metropolitan city of country and requires elaborate arrangements for holding elections for maintaining law and order.
At least 5,000 polling stations would be established to hold LG polls, requiring at least 39,000 security personnel to maintain law and order, while government only has 22,507 personnel to deploy for LG polls, it added.
