Karachi: Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) reserved verdict on reference filed by Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) about dual electoral lists. Three-member bench conducted hearing of plea under chairmanship of Chief Election Commissioner Sikandar Sultan Raja pertaining to dual electoral lists related to Local Body elections in Karachi and Hyderabad.

During hearing, Commissioner told lawyer representing MQM-P that he has gone to various forums, however, this issue was never raised before. He told lawyer to raise any other issue so that they can be clubbed. CEC remarked that lawyer is giving wrong statement regarding dual electoral rolls, rejecting his statement.

“You think you can get elections delayed when your arguments are irrelevant so far,” he told lawyer. Sikandar Sultan stressed that Local Government elections in Karachi will not be delayed, saying that it’s Election Commission of Pakistan’s job to conduct polls
