LCCI urges govt to address reservations of beverage, confectionery sector

LAHORE: Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) urged government to redress financial implications of beverage and confectionery sector. Beverage and confections sector have expressed grave concern over rapidly rising cost of doing business. Delegation of beverage and confectioners led by Tahir Anjum called on LCCI President Kashif Anwar and apprised him of miseries of both.

They said that sugar is basic raw material of sector. During last two weeks, price of sugar has increased drastically which has increased cost of doing business tremendously. They said price of confectionery products has increased significantly, which has reduced market share significantly.

Delegates said increasing prices of beverage and confectionary products will further reduce buying power of consumers. They demanded of government to immediately control prices of sugar and prevent the cost of doing business from increasing so as to reduce inflation.

Kashif Anwar assured delegation of his full cooperation, saying government should take concrete steps to protect this sector and reduce cost of doing business.

He said as good number of people are employed in beverage and confectionary business, adding increased cost of doing business will close units and unemployment will be increased. Anwar urged government to find out and control factors that have led to huge increase in prices.
