Lahore experiences record rainfall: Wettest day in 44 years sparks emergency measures

LAHORE: Lahore city experienced the most rainfall in 44 years today (Thursday) which resulted in flooding of low-lying areas.  

The Punjab governement has declared rain emergency in Lahore.  

Statistics show a staggering 337mm rainfall at the airport. Nishtar Town had 227mm, Gulshan-e-Ravi 210mm, Lakhsmi Chowk 191mm, Upper Mall 182mm, Tajpura 180mm, and Mughalpura 173mm rainfall. 

Downpour in several areas inundated roads and streets in the provincial capital and motorists faced immense difficulties while trying to carry on with their routine work. 

Rain caused disruption of electricity in parts of Lahore as dozens of feeders of the Lahore Electric Supply Company (LESCO) tripped.

The Met Office has predicted that the current rain spell in the country will continue till Aug 6.
