KWSC sets up daycare centre after name of ex-MD Fareeda Salam to empower women employees

Karachi: Karachi Water and Sewerage Corporation (KWSC) in collaboration with World Bank has established daycare centre after name of former Managing Director Fareeda Salam as part of its Gender Action Plan endevours. 

Initiative aims to empower female employees and promote their active participation within organisation. Daycare centre at KWSC central head office was inaugurated by KWSC Chief Executive Officer Syed Salahuddin Ahmed. KWSC Chief Operating Officer Asadullah Khan, KWSC’s Deputy Managing Director of Human Resource Department Muhammad Saqib, former Managing Director Fareeda Salam, TTL World Bank Tiziana Smith, Gender Specialist World Bank Mah Rukh, Gender Specialist KWSC Hamida Kaleem, KWSC’s Deputy Managing Director Finance Syed Aamir Rasheed, Director IT Abdul Ghani Sheikh and Director Admin Sajid Nizam were present. CEO said that centre was established to bridge gender gap and enhance women’s capabilities in all sectors. He mentioned that they have received hundreds of applications, from which selected women would undergo training in three phases focusing on women empowerment, IT and leadership.  He said that outstanding employees would receive further training to become lead trainers. Additionally, KWSC has designated specific spaces for women, such as separate washrooms, daycare centers and a prayer room.

He highlighted that such initiatives play crucial role in empowering female employees and will be instrumental in strengthening corporation. Assistant Communication Specialist Alina Sultan presented documentary on ongoing training at KWSC.
