KARACHI: On the directives of Mayor Karachi Barrister Murtaza Wahab, the Karachi Water and Sewerage Corporation (KW&SC) has implemented new SOPs to address public concerns promptly.
According to the Spokesperson of KW&SC, citizens can report issues related to open manholes or damaged ring slabs 24/7 via the helpline number 1334 or by contacting the relevant division. Under the new procedures, the concerned executive engineer is required to provide and install manhole covers within 12 to 24 hours of receiving a complaint. Furthermore, the engineer must submit a report on the installation to the superintendent and chief engineer for sewage and also update the helpline staff on the status of the resolution. The KW&SC clarified that failure to comply with these SOPs without valid reasons would hold the responsible executive engineer accountable. The Spokesperson of KW&SC stated that these SOPs have been introduced to prioritize and resolve public complaints effectively, enhancing the sewage system’s overall efficiency. These measures are a step towards providing better facilities for Karachi’s residents.
