KU VC, Chinese CG talk on various plans, projects

KARACHI: Vice-Chancellor of Karachi University Professor Dr Khalid Mahmood Iraqi, Pakistani Director of Confucius Institute (CI) Professor Dr Muhammad Nasiruddin Khan along with CI faculty visited Chinese Consulate here and paid courtesy call to Consul General Yang Yundong.
During meeting, CG Yang Yundong expressed his gratitude for strong support for development of CI at University and fully affirmed positive contributions made by Confucius Institute on campus in promoting international Chinese education and strengthening cultural exchanges between China and Pakistan.
He said, “CG will continue to firmly support development of Confucius Institute at University.” He hoped that Institute would cultivate strong friendly exchanges and cooperation between Pakistan and China and people-to-people contact between both countries.
Dr Khalid Iraqi briefly introduced to CG teaching situation of Confucius Institute at University and ongoing 2+2 joint BS programme for undergraduates majoring in Chinese and teaching situation of Confucius Institute.
“University is providing opportunities for students to learn Chinese and promote cultural exchanges and trade development between China and Pakistan.”
Dr Iraqi mentioned that University has renamed Art Auditorium Chinese Teachers Memorial Auditorium to commemorate three Chinese teachers and Pakistani van drivers who had sacrificed their lives for an education.
He informed the Chinese CG Yang Yundong about building of monument in University to pay tribute to deceased Chinese teachers. Furthermore, he shared details of future planning of working at CI at University.
