KARACHI: Karachi Press Club (KPC) has strongly condemned repeated blockage of its routes by law enforcement agencies, citing Section 144 as justification.
This move is seen as blatant attempt to stifle democratic right to peaceful assembly and freedom of expression. KPC President Saeed Sarbazi and Secretary Shoaib Ahmed along with Governing Body members have vehemently denounced police action. They view this as an assault on democratic values and an erosion of fundamental right to protest. “Karachi Press Club has glorious history of upholding freedom of press and democracy since 1958,” said Sarbazi.
“We will not tolerate any attempts to deprive individuals or groups of their right to peaceful protest.” KPC President demanded immediate removal of blockages around Karachi Press Club, probe into police action and administrative decisions leading to blockages. “Blocking protest routes and stifling dissenting voices will only fuel anarchy,” warned KPC Secretary Shoaib Ahmed. “Administration must recognise importance of democratic traditions and values, lest we repeat mistakes of past.” KPC has urged Sindh Governor and Chief Minister to take immediate notice of this critical issue and ensure removal of blockages. Failure to do so will prompt robust resistance and protests
