Peshawar: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Minister for Law Aftab Iqbal said that provincial government would approach Supreme Court (SC) to challenge Peshawar High Court’s ruling regarding oath of KP Assembly lawmakers elected on reserved seats. “We will challenge Peshawar High Court’s verdict in Supreme Court,” Alam said in statement, adding that senior lawyers Salman Akram Raja, Hamid Khan, and Faisal Siddiqui are included in legal panel.
He said that “Writ petition” has been prepared which will be filed after two days. He clarified that oath of members of provincial assembly elected on reserved seats for minorities and women will not be administered until top court’s verdict comes in on this matter.
Subsequently, provincial government will hold consultations in Cabinet meeting today regarding expected postponement of Senate election. He said that government could also have approached court over expected delay in Upper House poll, however, Cabinet will make final decision. Pointing towards Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf which merged with Sunni Ittehad Council after February nationwide polls, Alam termed it “Injustice” to ignore political party with highest number of seats during allocation of reserved seats. He alleged that injustice was done with Imran-founded party on reserved seats issue just like unjust moves of stripping PTI of its election symbol.
Chief Election Commissioner issued seven-page verdict on application regarding issuance of orders for administering of oaths to lawmakers and suspension of Senate poll till administration of oaths to extent of KP province.
