PESHAWAR: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa caretaker Chief Minister Azam Khan sent date of April 16 to Election Commission for holding KP polls in province. He also formed Joint Investigation Team (JIT) to probe suicide attack in masjid at Police Lines here.
He said by-polls would be held in time despite rise in terrorism tide in province. Announcement was made at joint press conference by CM and KP Inspector General of Police Moazzam Jah Ansari a day after brazen attack at masjid in Peshawar Police Lines.
He confirmed that 95 people had lost their lives, adding that compensation package was being prepared for victims of terrorist attack. He assured full support to police chief, adding that incident was "Shocking for all of us". In reply to question over elections, CM Khan said recent terror attack had nothing to do with polls, adding that terror incidents were taking place much before announcement of elections.
"My message to people is to keep their spirits high. Such things are happening here for last 40 years, this is not new thing," said Khan.
IGP said JIT would be led by DIG and it would include officials of other security agencies as well. He vowed that all perpetrators involved in attack would be taken to task.
