KARACHI: Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) will build four centrally air-conditioned new council halls with 500 seating capacity each in city. Engineering Department has been directed to survey these sites and submit final report and prepare design of council hall along with detailed maps so that construction can be started. Administrator Karachi Dr. Syed Saifur Rahman chairing meeting said that along with offices of mayor, deputy mayor, municipal commissioner, chairman of committees, media and council will also be built. Municipal Commissioner Syed Shujaat Hussain was in attendance. Media gallery, cafeteria, parking area, modern sound system, internet and direct coverage facilities for TV channels from council hall will also be provided. Proposed sites include Aladin Park, site behind Safari Park, USSR Academy on Super Highway and a site in Clifton.

KMC building has seating capacity of 310 members and cannot accommodate 367 members in council hall. Traffic congestion on M A Jinnah Road is another snag for council members to reach KMC building in time besides parking issues.

Funds will be allocated for construction of new council hall in next financial year budget and government of Sindh will also be requested to provide special funds in this regard. Governor Sindh and Chief Minister will be taken into confidence. Citizens will also be able to use cafeterias.
