KMC starts renovating Empress Market: Dr Saif

Karachi: Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) started renovation of Empress Market Saddar to restore its former glory. KMC Administrator Dr Syed Saifur Rehman said that snorkel was being used to paint tower of Empress Market. Inaugurated in 1889, historical building underwent extensive removal of encroachments and now there is beautiful park around building.

After reviewing renovation work, Dr Rehman told media persons that KMC was restoring heritage buildings of city. He said Empress Market held prominent position among historic buildings of Karachi and it was known landmark of city.

He said building had 80 windows, four large doors and iron bars installed all around. He added that clock tower of market would be repaired. KMC Administrator stated that market was located in heart of Karachi and millions of people pass through it every day. Empress Market was being renovated to provide convenience to citizens and enhance beauty of city, he added. He announced that other buildings of historical importance would also be uplifted.
