Karachi: KMC anti-encroachment department started anti-encroachment drive in Manzoor Colony in Jamshed Division District east. During operation, KMC anti-encroachment team removed and dismantled encroachment from service roads and footpaths.

KMC teams removed cabins, pushcarts and ‘patharaas’ from service roads and footpaths. They dismantled puncture shops setup on footpaths. KMC teams confiscated cabins, pushcarts and patharaas during drive. They demolished additional cemented structure built on footpaths outside shops.

The anti-encroachment drive was supervised by KMC Deputy Director Amin Lakhani, incharge Manzoor Colony anti-encroachment department Rizwan Khan and other staff was also present. Rangers and Baloch Colony Police personnel escorted KMC anti-encroachment teams during operation. KMC anti-encroachment teams made announcement regarding banning of polythene bags. KMC Administrator Murtaza Wahab in June this year imposed ban on using of plastic bags, causing blockade in ‘stormwater drains’.

KMC senior director anti-encroachment department Imran Ahmed Rajput said drive is to continue on daily basis. KMC anti-encroachment department has devised a plan regarding removal of encroachments from metropolis. “District-wise anti-encroachment drives are to be conducted on regular basis,” he added. KMC anti-encroachment teams are performing operations in East, South and Central districts in first phase, as these districts have plenty of encroachments on service roads and footpaths.

In next phase, anti-encroachment drives would be launched in Korangi, Malir, West and Keamari districts, he added.
