LAHORE: Pakistan Cricket Board Chairman Mohsin Naqvi is expected to meet head coach Gary Kirsten who reached the city on Monday.

The PCB chief had summoned Kirsten for consultation about Pakistan team’s future, especially the fate of Captain Babar Azam. A few days ago, Kirsten shared a report on team’s dismal performance in the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 with the PCB chairman. It is learnt that Kirsten has highlighted the skill level of players, mindset and physical fitness in the report. He questioned a lack of fitness of some players, saying they are incapable of contesting at the highest level. He also suggested remedial measures to prepare the team for the upcoming events.Prior to that chief selector Wahab Riaz also shared a report with the PCB head and alleged fissures in the team and other issues. The PCB chairman is also expected to meet Wahab Riaz and Captain Babar Azam within the next few days. Former South Africa batter and coach Gary Kirsten has been appointed head coach of the Pakistan men’s cricket team in limited overs cricket ahead of the upcoming ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024, while former Australia fast bowler Jason Gillespie has been appointed the head coach of the Test team.

The announcement on Sunday at the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) headquarters in Lahore follows months of turmoil at the board, where the coaching staff, captains and management went through several changes after Pakistan finished fifth at the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 in India.
