Khurram Dastagir inaugurates 500 KV Matiari-Thar transmission line

HYDERABAD: Minister for Energy (Power Division) Eng. Khurram Dastagir Khan inaugurated 220 kilometer Matiari-Thar 500 KV Quad Bundle transmission line completed by National Transmission Dispatch Company (NTDC) at cost Rs 20 billion in record time of four months on directives of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. Addressing press conference before inauguration of transmission line here at local hotel, Khurram Dastagir termed it revolutionary project that is totally indigenous and would transmit cheapest electricity generated from local coal of Thar to all over country.
He said actually this transmission line has to be completed four years ago but due to inability of previous government, it could not have completed.
With hectic efforts of MD NTDC and his whole team, this project has been completed within four months period, he added. NTDC also saved Rs 1 billion by completing it at cost of Rs 20 billion with help of 5 local companies. He said that government started producing 1980 megawatts of new and cheap electricity from Thar coal. He said that power generated from Thar coal would be dispatched to national grid through Matiari-Lahore transmission line which was a part of China Pakistan Economic Corridor project. He said first time in our history, high power cables, transformers and conductors are being made through local companies which saved foreign currency reserves.
He said that NTDC with support of sensitive agencies and DIG Hyderabad had eliminated theft of billions of rupees of transmission line cables and conductors.
Commenting on May 9 and 10 incidents, Khurram said national buildings and statues of our martyrs were vandalised by miscreants belonging to political party and no one would be allowed to tarnish image of country.
Earlier, he visited HESCO headquarter and handed over 15 modern vehicles equipped with safety measures to Company’s chief executive officer. State Minister Hashim Notezai, MD NTDC and HESCO Chief Myzafar Abbasi also visited shrine of Hazrat Shah Abdul Latif Bhittai with Minister.
