KARACHI: The Patron of All Karachi Traders Alliance and Deputy Chief Community Policing Karachi (CPK) Khawaja Jamal Sethi raises voice for the poverty-hit masses and shopkeepers amid a wave of rising inflation in the country.
He told this scribe that in Karachi around 0.8 million shops exists and most of the shop owners have no idea of technicalities so there is immense need to bring easiness in the taxation process and the traders should not be coerced for paying taxes of different nature, if this practice comes in way then ultimately the level of tax generation will increase.
Jamal Sethi said that today it is extremely important that the entire nation should stand firm collectively with its Armed Forces and Law Enforcement Agencies and no one should be allowed to bring any disgrace to our Security Forces and Institutions. Sethi said that Karachi traders and business community have full trust in the Pakistan Army. Our soldiers are fully capable to thwart evil designs of enemies by giving them befitting responses in no time.
Jamal Sethi said that in the present time, a common man is unable to meet his bread and butter needs due to which the purchasing capacity of consumers have also declined to near about 50 percent. He urged the members of the trade bodies and business community to offer special discounts across Karachi markets on different commodities in the month of Ramadan to provide relief and comfort to the inflation-stricken people.
Sethi while talking to ‘Daily National Courier’ suggested that in the next year Ramadan, traders, market associations should step ahead and protect the common man from the injustices of profiteers and hoarders by purchasing items directly from the wholesalers without keeping any profit and then setting up low-cost camps all over Karachi where daily usage commodities will be available at inexpensive rates so as to kneel-down the wrong-doers and corrupt elements in the society.
He further said that due to the political uncertainty prevailing in the country, the economy has reached a disastrous level where people are completely out of their pockets to even fulfill their basic necessities.
Jamal said in order to tackle the inflation impact, it is the need of the hour to raise the pay scale in between 30 to 35 percent. At one side, crisis after crisis is being witnessed. Non-availability of gas during Sehr-Iftar is another pain in the head of a common man while on the other side shutdown of the industrial sector is further weakening the economy in the long-run.
Under the capacity of Dy Chief Community Policing Karachi (CPK), Jamal Sethi revealed that in order to get rid of street crimes, CPK’s centers have been established in 5 different police stations in Karachi including Nazimabad, North Nazimabad, Azizabad, Soldier Bazar and Malir City where 24/7 monitoring of all criminal elements is being done with the help of advanced CCTV cameras.
