Kh Asif highlights billions in pending tax cases, urges judicial intervention

Islamabad: Defense Minister Khawaja Asif brought attention to concerning issue involving Federal Board of Revenue and judiciary, highlighting staggering amounts awaiting court proceedings.

In his latest Tweet, he emphasised urgent need for judicial intervention, revealing that significant sum of Rs 742 billion is pending resolution at Supreme Court, while an additional Rs 1,700 billion awaits adjudication in tribunals. Expressing his longstanding concern, Asif mentioned raising issue in Public Accounts Committee several years ago. He expressed determination to uncover origins of this ongoing problem, hinting at systemic issues involving collusion between FBR, tax defaulters and judiciary.

He underscored magnitude of issue, noting that combined sum of Rs 2,544 billion could alleviate various national burdens, including expenditures on health, education and defense.

Asif proposed potential solutions, suggesting that loans, IMF assistance and negotiation could help address outstanding tariffs.

However, he emphasised that honesty and patriotism are essential in resolving these challenges, urging for collective effort to tackle issue effectively. Asif’s remarks shed light on critical issue demanding immediate attention and concerted action for betterment of nation.
