K-Electric to cut power connection of govt departments

KARACHI: K-Electric (KE) decided to cut off electricity of more than three dozen Sindh government departments for not paying dues and clearing bills.
Company has sent letter to Chief Secretary and Secretary of Energy. In letter, it has been informed that power of 64 departments of Sindh will be disconnected.Power distribution entity highlighted that eight letters have been written, however, dues have not been cleared as promised. Therefore, it said, it has been decided that electricity will be cut off.It wrote that in 2019, Sindh government said it would pay all dues and new bills. Moreover, energy department was given responsibility for payment of electricity bills and dues.K-Electric has also included list naming 64 provincial departments and institutions in letter. It was further added by company that they have started process of disconnecting electricity connections of provincial departments.
Parallel to this, company is also facing criticism by residents of many areas of city over irregular loadshedding, especially during current heatwaves and extreme summers. There have been many protests by local masses demanding for an end to load-shedding.On other hand, K-Electric has sought support from federal government for allocation of coal for its 300 MW Mine Mouth Coal Power Project at Thar coalfield, well-informed sources told.PPIB wrote letter to KE requesting an update on status of feasibility study, data collection process, land acquisition, grid interconnection and load flow studies for project.
