KARACHI: Sindh High Court (SHC) took up case of mysterious deaths in Keamari allegedly due to toxic gas. IG Police Sindh, Advocate General and officials appeared in High Court.

Chief Justice SHC being irked with statement maintained that it was responsibility of SHO to file case of deaths on behalf of state. “Why police wait for an application for case registration,” he questioned. “How could cause of deaths come to surface without inquiry,” judge asked.

Court said that how can police windup case without autopsy of dead ones. “How you are investigating there are many deaths but only one postmortem,” Justice Yousaf Ali Saeed remarked.

Bench slammed police chief and remarked that he should not remain in office. “State should be complainant in such cases and case should be registered even affected party fails to appear,” court observed.

Court inquired IG Police how many people have died recently and whether cases have been registered of deaths. IG Police replied that 18 deaths took place and cases were not registered as families didn’t reach police with complaints. “Police registered cases if people come with their complaints,” police officer replied.
