KARACHI: National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) directed K-Electric (KE) not to carry out load shedding during night-time.

In instructions issued to KE, NEPRA maintained that even in extreme necessity, load shedding should not exceed one hour at night-time. NEPRA also directed KE to submit report within 7 days in light of instructions and warned that failure to comply would result in legal action against power utility. Earlier, KE sought an increase of Rs 5.45 per unit for consumers of city, dealing blow to already burdened households. Power utility requested NEPRA for hike under monthly fuel adjustment. Increase in electricity prices for KE consumers is expected to add an additional burden of over Rs 10 billion on Karachiites. KE asked NEPRA to approve Rs 2.53 per unit for May’s monthly fuel adjustment and Rs 2.92 per unit for month of June. NEPRA will hold hearing on July 30 on KE’s plea.
