KARACHI: Millions of rupees financial embezzlement and mal-administration has been unearthed that was done by the administrators illegally and arbitrarily appointed by Registrar Cooperative Societies Sindh and plundered the funds of M/s Karimabad Ismailia Multipurpose Cooperative Society Ltd. (KIMCSL) during last five years. Informed sources urged the law enforcement agencies to investigate unlimited corruption cases by the Registrar Cooperative Societies Sindh and his subordinates in Karachi.
They disclosed that by year 2019 Registrar Cooperative Societies Sindh, Muhammad Ali Shaikh had superseded the Karimabad Ismailia Multipurpose Cooperative Society Ltd. Karachi with immediate effect on 10-07-2019 and appointed a committee to run the affairs of the society under the supervision of Sajid Abdul Karim Surahayo, Assistant Registrar. Cooperative Societies-VI, Karachi and two senior members of the society for a period of one year from the date of his order.
“They shall exercise all the powers of the Managing Committee in accordance with the Provision of registered Bye-Laws of the society”, his order said. However, the appointed administrator not only embezzled a huge amount of more than 40 million rupees recovered and paid by NAB authorities from previous corrupt office-bearers but about Rs.17 million per annum being collected from about one thousand members of the society every year on account of maintenance fees and other charges. But he did not conduct free and fair elections of the managing committee of society even after three years.
On 14-10-2021, Muhammad Usman Khaskheli, Assistant Registrar Cooperative Societies (General) Karachi was appointed by the Registrar as new Administrator of the KIMC Society in place of Sajid Abdul Karim Surahayo with immediate effect and until further order. Khaskheli was directed to hold election of Chairman, Secretary, Treasurer and five Directors of the society within a period of 30-days from the date of this order.
It may be mentioned here that earlier on 6-11-2020 too Khaskheli was replaced by Sajid Abdul Karim Surahayo for a period of 60-days for holding elections of the managing committee but he was miserably failed to do so. Another interesting fact is that Registrar Societies on 19-05-2022 had appointed one Stenographer of his office namely Javed Hussain as Administrator of this Society. He was appointed in place of Abid Khan with immediate effect and until further order. Javed Hussain was also directed to hold election of the society managing committee within a period of 30-days from the date of this order. But the joke was continued and appointees from the Registrar Office enjoyed the lucrative funds of Karimabad Ismailia Multipurpose Cooperative Society Ltd., the sources added.
