Karachi: Elongated controversy over three major hospitals of Karachi has finally resolved as federal government accepted Sindh government’s request over ownership of hospitals and handed them over to provincial government under a new agreement.

According to details, federal government has handed over administrative control of Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC), National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases (NICVD) and National Institute of Child Health (NICH) to Sindh government under agreement. As per agreement, federal government has handed over administrative and financial control of Karachi’s three hospitals to Sindh government on a 25-year lease. In January 2019, SC rejected Sindh government’s appeal and ordered federal government to take control of JPMC, NICH in Karachi as well as NICVD. Sindh government and health institutions had approached court with a claim that since subject of health had been devolved to provinces under 18th Amendment, management of JPMC, NICVD and NICH also vested with Sindh government.
