Karachiites may face more hike in power tariff

KARACHI: K-Electric has applied for Rs 2.34 hike in power tariff on account of monthly Fuel Charges Adjustment (FCA) for June month, to add to miseries of consumers who are already undergoing torments of highest-ever inflation.
Power utility demanded in an application to National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) for raise in power tariff for Karachi consumers by Rs 2.34/unit. NEPRA will conduct hearing on K-Electric application on July 26.
Approval of plea will put an additional burden of Rs 4.39 billion on consumers of Karachi. Last week, National Electric Power Regulatory Authority hiked base power tariff by Rs 4.96 per unit for fiscal year 2023-24.
Authority forwarded its decision regarding recommended hike in base power tariff to federal government for final approval. Base tariff of electricity will be increased from Rs 24.82 per unit to Rs 29.78 per unit after recommended hike.
NEPRA spokesperson said that Cabinet will decide whether hike in power tariff will be implemented in phases or not.
