Karachi University to allocate land to Sindh HEC

KARACHI: Karachi University (KU) has decided to allocate two acres of land to Sindh Higher Education Commission (SHEC).
Meeting held to discuss various administrative and academic matters, reached several important conclusions. Syndicate of University of Karachi convened under chairmanship of Vice Chancellor, where key decision was made to allocate two acres of land to Sindh Higher Education Commission. According to decision, while land will be provided to SHEC, ownership of land will remain with University of Karachi.
Terms of allocation clearly state that the land is not to be used for any commercial purposes, ensuring that integrity and purpose of University’s property are maintained.
Moreover, any building constructed on this land will also be owned by Karachi University, preserving University’s rights over infrastructure developed on its premises. Sindh Higher Education Commission was established in 2013 following 18th Constitutional Amendment.
Its primary mission is to promote higher education, research and development within Sindh Province. By facilitating institutions of higher learning, SHEC aims to contribute significantly to socio-economic development of region. SHEC’s initiatives include variety of programmes designed to support and improve higher education. These programmes encompass scholarships, research support, capacity enhancement, and quality assurance. Commission also fosters provincial, national and international linkages to promote knowledge sharing, collaborative research and personal exchange.
By leveraging these connections, SHEC aims to make most effective use of specialised equipment and expertise available within province. Syndicate of University also approved names of various department heads during meeting. These appointments are expected to strengthen academic and administrative functions of University, contributing to institution’s continued growth and stability.
