KARACHI: Across globe, decision making is done after taking into consideration all pros and cons of any prevailing and particular situation but what an irony!! Schools in Karachi get closed at such time when little winter is about to come and gets opened amid severe cold weather risking health of little angels in jeopardy.

This is not just paradoxes existing both in our educational system and also on sides of government functionaries. Solely Education Department of Sindh government is bound to take decision in perspective to declare winter vacations in schools and colleges particularly in Karachi as for in last many years harsh winter looms during every year in January not in December because of climate change blanketing world.

This is known as climate change and Sindh government should consider January every year to notify winter vacations in educational institutions.

Nowhere in world are such steps being taken that tends to put lives of children at stake. It is evident at present that Karachi is facing severe cold weather and students are bound and burdened to attend classes irrespective of what consequences comes after but educational institutions pay no heed to such weather conditions.

At one side, educational institutions teaches lessons of safety, security, health and hygiene, moral values to children and contrary to it these lectures turns futile when irrational decisions are taken by concerned authorities.

Despite knowing fact that last year, Pakistan witnessed devastated floods and torrential rains which is big indicator to fact that severe cold weather will grasp countries geographical boundaries at length.

Unfortunately, having known this reality, concerned remained ill-informed and announced opening of schools amid extreme cold weather.

In light of forecast issued by Pakistan Meteorological Department in recent days it was learnt that new cold wave will engulf entire Sindh including Karachi that will continue for days but yet educational institutions paid no attention to any such circular. Might authorities’ belief that children health and life is secondary, attending classes is primary and mandatory even under any disastrous circumstances.

Karachi is facing massive cold waves and weather officials have advised people to take precautionary measures during such weather conditions, but educational institutions are adamant to their stance of continuing regular classes.
