Karachi population in Digital Census rises above 20m

KARACHI: Population of Karachi has been counted 20.382 million in recent digital census and city will likely to get an extra National Assembly and three Sindh Assembly seats, sources informed.

"Karachi's District South will get an extra NA seat," sources said. "City's Central, East and West districts will get an extra provincial legislature seat each," sources said.

Karachi East has become population-wise largest district of metropolis and Keamari smallest district of the city, according to census count. District East has 3950,051 mln population in digital census.

District Central has been 2nd largest district with 3822,325 population. District Korangi has total 3128,971 population according to census results. District West has 2679,380 population count, Malir district has 2403,959, population count in District South has been 2300,029 and in Keamari District 2068,000 in population census. Government notified results of seventh census after approval from Council of Common Interests.

According to notification, Pakistan's population has crossed 241 million including 147.7 million rural and 93.7 million urban population.

Province-wise, Punjab's population has reached 127.7 million and Sindh's population is recorded at 55.6 million. Khyber Pakhtunkhwa's population has been 40.8 million while Balochistan's population was recorded at 14.8 million, notification said.

According to these figures, population of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa increased by 2.38 percent, Punjab 2.53 percent, Sindh 2.57 percent and Balochistan 3.2 percent.
