KARACHI: Meteorological Department forecast beginning of monsoon in first week of July. Chief Meteorologist Sardar Sarfaraz confirmed to private TV channel in talks that rains have already started in upper areas of Sindh and Karachi is expected to follow suit soon.

“Beginning of rains in Karachi is expected in first week of July,” he predicted.  Sarfaraz highlighted that more than normal rainfall is anticipated this year, providing much-needed relief from intense heat. However, he cautioned that possibility of urban flooding in Karachi cannot be ruled out due to potential heavy spells. Karachi has been experiencing high humidity levels, exacerbating feeling of heat among its residents, he further explains. Impending rains are expected to alleviate some of this discomfort, offering welcome respite from sweltering conditions. Meanwhile, after forecasts of rain in coming days, parts of Karachi received light showers sweltered from high temperatures ahead of monsoon season.  Areas including North Karachi, New Karachi, North Nazimabad,, Garden, Lyari, Sadar, old-city areas and Gulshan witnessed light rain. Pakistan Meteorological Department predicted that more rain or drizzle in some areas under influence of clouds present in north-eastern areas of Karachi.
