Karachi local body election results: Here’s latest party position

Karachi: Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) issued latest party positions in Karachi’s Local Government (LG) elections held on January 15 showing Pakistan Peoples’ Party in lead with Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) trailing behind. According to latest results by ECP PPP won 91 seats and JI secured 85 seats.

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) acquired 42, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz seven, Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazal two and Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan one, according to latest results. One seat was also secured by independent candidate. Results highlighted that ECP has formulated results of chairmen and vice chairmen in 229 union councils. However, results of six union committees were withheld by ECP, following which Commission decided to hold hearing on matter on January 25. Results mention that elections were postponed for 11 seats due to demise of candidates. From total 41 seats in district central, JI secured 37 seats whereas PPP bagged four and PTI one. In district east, from 42 seats, JI won 19, PPP 14 and PTI nine seats.
