Karachi Administrator visits Ghalib Library, urges to develop on modern lines

KARACHI: Administrator Karachi Dr. Syed Saifur Rehman said that Ghalib Library a valuable asset of Karachi, memories of famous writers, poets, intellectuals, teachers, journalists and ordinary citizens of country are associated with this library, it is necessary to protect this historical heritage. Library will be developed on modern lines for citizens.

 Visiting Ghalib Library Nazimabad Dr. Saifur Rahman made detailed visit to different parts of Library and reviewed books and historical literary magazines there. He said this literary treasure must be preserved for future generations. Ghalib Library had status of main library of Karachi at one time, affiliation of eminent personalities like Syed Sibt-e-Hasan, Faiz Ahmed Faiz, Mirza Zafarul Hasan to this library highlights importance and usefulness of this place. We will not allow this historical heritage to be destroyed.

 He advised administration of Ghalib Library to invite eminent and influential personalities of Karachi to participate in governing body so that this library can become great and central library like in past, he said that services of Idara-e-Yadgar-e-Ghalib are commendable for knowledge and literature. This institution established Ghalib Library in Nazimabad on occasion of Ghalib’s centenary in 1969 with aim of providing reading facilities to people of city and province. In period of about 54 years, large number of students, poets, intellectuals, writers, journalists and teachers have benefited from about forty thousand important books and thirty five thousand rare literary magazines in Library and even today this academic institution is performing literary and cultural services. He said that publication of more than 100 scientific and research books and magazine ‘Ghalib’ under Yadgar Ghalib is commendable. He said that developing this library in accordance to requirements of modern age would ensure storing collection of books and magazines available in library on computer and all this collection will be available to citizens online.

Ghalib Library’s honorary secretary Dr. Tanzeem-ul-Firdous, Vice President Faheem Ansari, Dr. Muhammad Tahir Qureshi, Dr. Rauf Parekh, members of governing body Syed Mairaj Jami, Dr. Sadaf Rana Khalid Mehmood and senior Director of Public Relations and Media Management KMC Ali Hassan Sajid were present.
