KARACHI: After a hiatus of nearly 6 months, seat of governorship of Sindh is no more vacant now as MQM-P’s Kamran Tessori sworn in as 34th Governor of Sindh yesterday.
Sindh High Court Chief Justice Ahmed Ali M Shaikh administered oath to Tessori at Governor’s House, which was largely attended by provincial leadership. President Arif Alvi approved Tessori’s appointment under Article 101 (1) of Constitution.
Chief Minister Sindh Murad Ali Shah, provincial ministers, MQM-P leaders Waseem Akhtar, Khawaja Izharul Hassan and members of business community attended ceremony and congratulated Kamran Tessori on his appointment as new Sindh Governor. Speaking after ceremony, Tessori said that he will put all his best efforts to fulfil duties in most explicit manner by working with cohesion and coordination with all political stakeholders.
Newly sworn-in governor also said, “Considering issues in Sindh province and Karachi. I will raise my voice at all platforms and will play a vital role in bringing ease and comfort to masses.” “I am thankful from bottom of my heart to MQM-P Chief Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui and top leadership of my party who believed in me and nominated me for this esteemed slot,” said Tessori.
Governor Sindh also said that he enjoys a close bond with Dr Farooq Sattar and he always resides in his heart and hoped that very soon Dr Farooq Sattar will be back in MQM-P. He thanked PSP Chief Mustafa Kamal and all those who expressed prayers and wishes on his appointment as Governor Sindh.
Office of Governor Sindh was lying vacant after resignation of former governor Imran Ismail who stepped down from post after Imran Khan’s ouster from PM Office in April. On September 9, MQM-P in a meeting chaired by party’s convener Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui, decided to induct Tessori back into party as deputy convener. Senior MQM-P leader Nasreen Jalil was initially considered for the office and a summary was also moved for her appointment as governor but despite the lapse of almost five months, the president didn’t approve her nomination. In a statement issued after the president’s approval, an MQM-P spokesperson said that Tessori will play the role of bridge between Sindh and the Centre. In this regard, the spokesperson said that since the establishment of the current government, governor Sindh's post was lying vacant.
