ISLAMABAD: Supreme Court's (SC) Justice Qazi Faez Isa urged Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Umar Ata Bandial to withdraw names of those junior high court judges, who have already been rejected by Judicial Commission of Pakistan (JCP), for their elevation to SC.

In his letter to CJP, Justice Isa asked to "put forward for consideration names of chief justices of five high courts or, as proposed by two members, chief justices together with senior-most judges of five high courts, failing which let this constitute agenda of forthcoming meeting."

Letter by Puisne judge comes just a day after superior bars strongly objected to nominations of three junior judges of high courts regarding their elevation to apex court.

Currently, top court is short of five judges out of a total strength of 17. Names of judges, who have been recommended for elevation, include Justice Athar Minallah of Islamabad High Court, Justice Shahid Waheed of Lahore High Court and Justice Syed Hasan Azhar Rizvi and Justice Shafi Siddiqui of Sindh High Court.

Letter furthered that Justice Bandial also contradicted himself in note when he stated that meeting of "JCP is being resumed on October 24, 2022". The JCP meeting is set to be held today  to consider nomination of four high courts judges regarding their elevation to the top court.
