ISLAMABAD: President Dr Arif Alvi has said that Pakistan consistently maintained that lasting solution to Jammu and Kashmir dispute was possible only in accordance with relevant UN Security Council Resolutions and wishes of Kashmiri people.

“Pakistan urges international community and organisations to take practical steps to hold India accountable for its gross and widespread human rights violations in IIOJK,” President said in message on Kashmir Solidarity Day observed February 5.

“We observe this day to draw attention of international community towards relevant UN Security Council Resolutions which provide that final disposition of Jammu and Kashmir Dispute would be made in accordance with will of people, expressed through democratic method of free and impartial plebiscite conducted under auspices of United Nations,” he stressed.

Dr Alvi said Pakistan called upon India to allow unfettered access to UN and OIC observers, international media and human rights organisations to Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir to obtain first-hand information about situation there and investigate and report human rights violations.

He reiterated Pakistan would continue to extend its unstinted moral, diplomatic and political support for this just cause. “Today, we observe Kashmir Solidarity Day to express Pakistan’s unflinching support for legitimate and just struggle of Kashmiri people for realisation of their inalienable right to self-determination,” President Secretariat Press Wing in press release quoted President as saying.

He paid rich tribute to selfless sacrifices made by their Kashmiri brothers and sisters during their decades-old resistance to Indian occupation.
