RAWALPINDI: Jamaat-e-Islami amir Hafiz Naeemur Rehman said that Liaquat Bagh sit-in would change history of Pakistan.
Addressing sit-in here, Hafiz Naeem said that party workers are steadfast even in this harsh weather. He also congratulated workers for representing public over inflated power bills.
Jamaat-e-Islami is staging protest in Rawalpindi for last three days against exorbitant electricity bills while demanding relief for public.
"This sit-in is uniting whole Pakistan," said JI emir. He added that PPP started business of IPPs in 1994 and later PML-N further enhanced it. According to Hafiz Naeem, every segment of society is perturbed due to inflated power bills including traders and industrialists.
"We have to fight and show resistance," said JI amir, while addressing party workers. He added that JI will not allow more taxes on electricity and sit-in will remain continue till acceptance of all demands.
JI chief further announced plans to extend protests to major cities of Karachi, Lahore, Peshawar and Quetta, calling for organised demonstrations in these provincial capitals.
He also warned that ongoing struggle would continue, with additional calls for strikes and demonstrations if necessary. Rehman emphasised the importance of discipline and confidence in leadership, assuring participants that JI would not be deterred by any obstacles.
He acknowledged the strength and unity of the protesters, attributing the party’s current momentum to their collective support.
Earlier in day, three-member government committee comprising Attaullah Tarar, Amir Muqam, and Tariq Fazal Chaudhry held negotiations with JI's delegation.
"Negotiations took place in very positive environment. Our vision is to let Pakistan progress and subsidy has already been provided to consumers using up to 200 units," said Tarar.
