ISLAMABAD: JI demanding for holding election within constitutional period of 90 days has made it clear on Election Commission (EC) violation of Constitution is not acceptable in any way.

“EC should exercise its powers for fair and transparent election and should not look towards any other force, this was said by JI delegation while talking to media men after meeting with Chief Election Commissioner.

JI delegation was led by JI Naib Amir Amir ul Azeem. Other members of delegation were Dr Farid Paracha, Naib Amir Professor Muhammad Ibrahim Khan, Mian Aslam and Rashid Umar Olakh.

Talking to media men Amir ul Azeem said we have made it clear on EC that general elections should be held in country with constitutional period of 90 days. It was responsibility of EC it should have announced date for general election beside delimitation of constituencies. We protest over it. EC has not announced holding election within constitutional period.

We have placed proposals with reference to delimitation of constituencies and voters lists and proportionate representation before EC during meeting.

We have put before EC matter of not holding election in KP and Punjab within constitutional period.

EC while expressing its helplessness said, “We had repeatedly sent letters to PTI and PDM governments for holding new population census soon but no action was taken in this regard by these governments.”

Council for Common Interests endorsed new population census at time when the government was close to end. Later process of delimitation was started.  Dr Farid Paracha said we have always raised voice to make EC empowered and independent. We have told EC to exercise its powers.

EC should exercise suo motu powers instead of making complaints with regard to holding fair and transparent election.

We have given proposal to EC that way limit of expenses has been fixed for election candidates, such limit should also be fixed for political parties as well so that no party could hijack election by dint of money.
