Karachi: Expensive Fruits boycott drive initiated by JDC Founder Zafar Abbas and a well-known businessmen and General Secretary of All Karachi Restaurants Association Faizan Rawat have started gaining strength in city.

Not only members of the business community but also, entertainment, sports celebrities, politicians from different political parties, educationists, journalists have fully endorsed the stance undertaken by Abbas and Rawat. Following to the fruits boycott campaign, local administration also intensified its monitoring and started taking stern action against profiteers and hoarders.

As a result, simultaneously the prices of fruits have started decreasing in different areas of city. Faizan Rawat while talking exclusively to ‘Daily National Courier’ said that ‘this is just the start against injustices of profiteers and this drive will not end until the prices comes exactly in accordance with the list as prescribed by the government’. Rawat also added that subsequent to our call for boycott, citizens have waged jihad against fruits mafia and this unison of people will dampen the spirits of mafia in all aspects. Cricket star Sarfaraz Ahmed also asked citizens to fully support JDC and Faizan Rawat’s drive to boycott expensive fruits.

In the next stage we will soon start meat boycott drive also with an only intent to bring comfort to the masses who are already stuck-up with the exaggerating inflation in the country, Rawat said. Chairman All Karachi Traders Alliance Atiq Mir, All Karachi Traders Alliance leader Dilshad Bukhari, Javed Qureshi President All Pakistan Anjuman-e-Tajiran and other traders have also supported this campaign and appealed to the citizens to not purchase any fruits until prices comes to low.  Social worker and JDC Founder Zafar Abbas while highlighting the unfair treatment of fruits vendors said that it is unfortunate that a common man is unable to purchase fruits for his children in the month of Ramadhan just because of prices inequalities in different markets and added that we will not let this culture to preavail under any circumstances.

Zafar Abbas once again appealed to all the Karachiites to give a tough time to the hoarders and don’t purchase any single fruits in Ramadhan. He further said that it is inexcusable that guavas worth Rs 123 per kg are being sold at Rs 400. If all people boycott fruits till Ramadhan 5, then you will get low-priced fruits for next 20 to 25 days.  Zafar Abbas and Faizan Rawat also thanked the citizens and the business community for their unequivocal support to ‘expensive fruits’ boycott campaign. It must be mentioned here that nowadays, citizens have started making videos of iftar without fruit and sharing it with their friends and relatives on social media platforms in order to create more awareness of this drive.

Moreover, on third day of Ramadhan, action was taken against 250 peddlers and two peddlers were arrested and their shops were sealed. On fourth day of Ramadhan, district administration officers took action without any discrimination in all districts in the metropolis.
