It's not necessary to dismiss amendments in NAB Law: CJP

ISLAMABAD: Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Umar Ata Bandial remarked that it was not necessary to terminate amendments in NAB laws as court had also more options and it was viewing betterment in laws. He remarked that our society was suffering from disease of corruption and there should be balance between work for public benefits and taking individual advantages.
Three member bench headed by Chief Justice Umar Ata Bandial heard petition of PTI's Chief Imran Khan against amendments in NAB laws. Counsel of government Makhdom Ali Khan informed court that 159 members of house had voted in favour of NAB amendments. Chief Justice remarked that question was that whether attendance of opposition at time of legislation was necessary.
CJP remarked that courts were not forum to resolve political conflicts. Whether it would increase conflicts if courts started to take decision on controversial matters. He said that there was also political dispute in this case. Question was that how court would defend and protect Constitution, he said.
Chief Justice said Constitution stood for nation of Pakistan and it also had to be viewed that to which extend court could go in this case. Public office holders were also accountable, he said, adding that anti-corruption laws were intact since creation of Pakistan. CJP said that we didn't have to view social or political problems, adding that trust was centre of all matters and doctrine of trust was compulsory for public office.
