Gaza: Health Ministry in Gaza has said that 11,078 people have been martyred in five weeks of an Israeli military campaign targeting besieged enclave since October 7, AFP reported.

Death toll includes 4,506 children, Health Ministry statement said while 27,490 people have been wounded in conflict between Israel and Hamas.

Meanwhile, UN human rights chief has called for an investigation into what he called Israel’s use of “High-impact explosive weapons” in Gaza, which he said were causing indiscriminate destruction in besieged Palestinian enclave.

Volker Turk, UN High Commissioner for Human Rights said Israel must end its use of such weapons in densely populated area, home to 2.3 million Palestinians, half of whom have been displaced by fighting in last month. Turk did not specify what weapons he was referring to.

Moreover, three Palestinian human rights groups have said that they have asked International Criminal Court (ICC) to investigate Israel, accusing it of committing war crimes including genocide by bombing and besieging Gaza, Reuters reported. Israel which is not member of Hague-based court and does not recognise its jurisdiction did not immediately respond to request for comment. Three rights groups Al Haq, Al Mezan and Palestine Human Rights Campaign said they had asked ICC to focus on Israeli air strikes on densely populated civilian areas in Gaza, siege of territory and displacement of population. “These actions amount to war crimes and crimes against humanity including genocide and incitement to genocide,” they said in joint press statement.
