ISLAMABAD: A court in federal capital handed over Awami Muslim League Chief Sheikh Rasheed Ahmed to Murree Police after approving his one-day transit remand in case related to interference in official affairs. On February 3, Ahmed was booked by Murree Police for interfering in official affairs and resisting his arrest day after he was taken into case for alleging former President Asif Ali Zardari of hatching plot to assassinate Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Chairman Imran Khan.
Close ally of PTI, who was sent on 14-day judicial remand last week in Zardari-related case was produced before district and sessions court where Murree Police sought transit remand of AML Chief. However, Ahmed’s lawyer Ali Bukhari said judicial magistrate also rejected an identical petition for transit remand. Prosecutor told judge that police needed to produce senior politician in court in Murree. After hearing arguments, court accepted police plea and approved one day remand while directing police to produce him back in this court today. AML Chief briefly spoke to media when he revealed, “I was asked to meet an important person last night but I refused it”. “They want me to change my political loyalties but I will not do it,” he said.
