TEHRAN: Iran said it had thwarted an alleged sabotage attack orchestrated by Israeli spy agency Mossad against country’s missile industry.

In an announcement on state TV, Defence Ministry said, “Biggest industrial sabotage” in missile industry was “Prevented and neutralised” by Ministry’s intelligence unit.

“Intelligence unit of Defence Ministry thwarted one of largest sabotage plots targeting Iran’s missile, aviation and airspace military industry,” state TV said, adding plan was carried out “Under guidance of Zionist intelligence services,” referring to Mossad.

Ministry said sabotage plot sought to introduce “Defective parts” into production of missiles with help of network of Mossad agents.

Citing an unnamed security official, Nour News, which is affiliated with Iran’s top security body, said country’s missile industry has “Always been target of industrial sabotage” due to its “Strategic effectiveness as” deterrent against enemy threats.”

Alleged sabotage plot, it said, was active over past several months and intended to introduce “Defective parts” in production of advanced missiles, but Iran’s intelligence agencies were monitoring it. Senior military official said that had sabotage programme not been discovered, it could have deactivated all missiles.
