Interior Ministry, police regret to present Chairman PTI in EC in contempt case

ISLAMABAD: Interior Ministry, Islamabad and Punjab Police regretted to bring Chairman PTI Imran Khan to Election Commission (EC) due to life threats facing by him. EC has summoned Interior Secretary on matter.

4-member bench of EC led by member Sindh Nisar Durrani took up contempt of EC case against Imran Khan for hearing. Shoaib Shaheen counsel for PTI Chairman appeared in EC. PTI Chairman was not presented in EC despite issuance of production order by EC. Counsel Shoaib Shaheen said contempt of EC has been committed really.

Secretary EC Umar Hamid Khan while reading report written by Interior Ministry, Islamabad police and Punjab police to EC with reference to Chairman PTI said PTI Chairman is facing serious life threats. They cannot take responsibility of presenting Chairman PTI to EC. EC should conduct hearing in Adiala Jail.

Member Commission said how we can go there. What are threats for Chairman PTI in bringing him to EC. Member Punjab said if you cannot give guarantee for security to one man then how will you hold election tomorrow. AIG Punjab said PTI Chairman himself had said he is facing life threats.

Member Sindh said you are sure what Chairman PTI says he is saying correct. Counsel for PTI chairman said finish this matter. I promise this will not happen in future. Member Commission said that written apology be obtained from Chairman PTI and we will finish matter.

Counsel said we are not granted permission to meet Chairman PTI. There are 199 cases against PTI Chairman and he has been given bail in most of cases. We accept EC as constitutional institution. Where disagreement is needed we will do. Member EC said express difference but don’t abuse.

Secretary Commission said if services of Rangers and Army are obtained for bringing PTI Chairman, they have better security.

Member EC said if Army and Rangers have to do all then how election will take place. Member Commission inquired who is officer from EC that has said we should conduct hearing in Adiala Jail.

AIG Punjab said Rawalpindi is thickly populated area. Bringing PTI chairman from there is not safe. Member Punjab said how can interior ministry order us that we should hold hearing in jail. We summon Interior Secretary on this matter. EC while adjourning hearing of case till November 13 summoned Interior Secretary.
