Interim Minister Ahmed Shah conducts press conference on election preparation

Karachi: Interim Minister for Information Sindh, President Arts Council Karachi Ahmed Shah along with caretaker interior Minister Brigadier (retd) Haris Nawaz briefed media here.
Ahmed Shah said only few days left for elections, high-profile meeting has taken place with federal and provincial covenant bearers to ensure maintenance of peace and security. He informed that government is fully prepared for elections, releasing Rs 620 million for police. It was decided any ongoing developments would be communicated to media. He mentioned that an election cell is being established for journalists, which will operate 24 hours.
Interim Minister assured that he will personally monitor issues arising in interaction with journalists. All necessary facilities will be provided to journalists. He highlighted presence of numerous channels on social media with unverified information, stating that until social media matures to point where it can be trusted, they cannot take any specific actions.
Haris Nawaz, provided briefing to media, assuring everyone that there should be no doubts; preparations for election are complete. He emphasised that responsibility for conducting elections lies with Election Commission and government is fully cooperating. Services from various departments including Anti-Corruption, Forest Department, FIA and health workers will also be available. Efforts are being made to avoid need for private security officers. He mentioned that there are 5,954 normal and over 12,000 sensitive and highly sensitive polling stations. Total of 122,000 police officers are included in security measures, including 1,984 personnel from Pakistan Army.
He highlighted that Chief Minister has allocated budget to all departments and their aim is to conduct transparent and impartial elections.
Cameras in polling stations without electricity will be powered by solar systems. Security situation is reported to be better and all possible measures have been taken to improve peace and security
