Interim Home Minister emphasises collaboration for enhanced security measures in Sindh

KARACHI: Interim Minister for Home and Prisons Sindh Brig. (retd) Haris Nawaz in meeting reviewed law and order situation in province, with focus on matters related to repatriation of illegal immigrants and foreign nationals. Senior officials from Sindh Home Department, Police, Pakistan Rangers (Sindh) and various intelligence agencies as well as representative from National Database and Registration Authority attended meeting.
Interim Minister commended role of various departments and institutions, especially Rangers, police and district administration in providing facilities and accommodations for returning migrants.
He instructed to expedite deportation process and proposed holding follow-up meeting every Tuesday to monitor progress of repatriating illegal immigrants.
During meeting, it was reported that Finance Department Sindh has disbursed estimated funds necessary for ongoing repatriation process in province. Stressing importance of transparency in all expenses related to illegal immigrants’ evacuation process, he emphasised strict adherence to rules and regulations governing these expenses and suggested devising mechanism to ensure transparency.
City police chief briefed interim Home Minister on overall law and order issues, particularly street crimes. Home Minister highlighted government’s primary responsibility to safeguard lives and property of people and maintain peace. He urged relevant authorities to take all possible measures to ensure smooth flow of daily life, economic activities and peaceful environment. He stressed need for enhanced security measures at all levels, in coordination with police, Rangers and intelligence services.
Meeting discussed issue of drug trafficking in city, especially within educational institutions. While reviewing police progress report on actions and arrests against drug cartels, Home Minister instructed to intensify ongoing operations against those involved in drug trade and their supporters.
He received security briefing on Chinese nationals working on projects related to China-Pakistan Economic Corridor and other initiatives. He emphasised that ensuring foolproof security for Chinese nationals involved in all development projects including CPEC and non-CPEC ventures was top priority.
