KARACHI: Caretaker Chief Minister Sindh Maqbool Baqar has requested Interim PM Anwaarul Haq Kakar to facilitate completion of M-6 Motorway by taking personal interest. In letter to interim Prime Minister Kakar, caretaker CM wrote that all portions of Peshawar to Karachi Motorway have been completed but key link of road project from Hyderabad to Sukkur has been still incomplete.
Caretaker CM said that lack of progress in implementation of M-6 project at site has been matter of concern. “M-6 project was actually part of CPEC Project framework, regretfully federal government removed project from CPEC without sharing any specific reason,” letter read.
“ECNEC approved M-6 project in July 2020 with estimated cost of Rs 165.678 billion. In May 2021 project cost was revised and fixed at 191.471 billion rupees”, caretaker CM wrote.
“At last, project was decided to be built in December 2022 under public-private participation mode,” Maqbool Baqar said. “Project was approved for implementation under build-operate and transfer framework with cost of Rs .308.194 billion,” he said.
Now National Highway Authority has cancelled agreement awarded to Techno-CMC-ACC Consortium. “Reason has been given that company has failed to complete its financial close within given time”.
Justice (retd) Maqbool Baqar requested to government to direct competent authority to complete M-6 project as soon as possible.
