Info Minister says govt engaging with IMF on relief measures for electricity consumers

Islamabad: Interim Information Minister Murtaza Solangi said caretaker government is trying to engage International Monetary Fund regarding relief measures for electricity consumers and an announcement was expected soon.
After Cabinet meeting, he deliberated on Ministry of Energy’s recommendations for reducing high electricity bills here. Meeting was convened in response to public demonstrations across country, with considerable number of people taking to streets to protest against excessively high electricity bills following significant rise in national average tariff. However, source told caretaker PM did not preside over meeting and instead, asked ministers for Energy, Finance, Information and others to hold meeting and come up with solution that would be presented before Cabinet today.
Interim Information Minister Murtaza Solangi said Energy Ministry had finalised list of proposals to provide relief to inflation-hit populace, which would be presented in today’s meeting. Energy Ministry confirmed this on X.
