Imtiaz Sheikh says working on solar power projects

KARACHI: Sindh Energy Minister Imtiaz Sheikh said that provincial government was playing its full role in solving energy crisis. “Providing eco-friendly and affordable electricity to people through alternative energy is our top priority,” he said.
Addressing review meeting on provision of solar power 200,000 homes in province he said that Sindh government kept providing cheap electricity to its villages as priority project. “For completion of these projects, Sindh government has arranged financial resources with support of World Bank,” he added.
He said that provincial government wanted to start and complete solar power supply to 20,000 houses as soon as possible
In meeting, he was informed about economic difficulties in supply of technical equipment by solar home system suppliers. Imtiaz Shaikh said that provision of facilities to people of province was first priority of Sindh government and provision of environment-friendly electricity was part of initial plans.
He said that government wanted to complete solar home project on an emergency basis, adding that all obstacles would be removed and project would be completed within stipulated period.
Energy Secretary Abubakar Madani, Project Director Sindh Solar Energy Qazi Mahfooz, representatives of solar home suppliers’ companies working on project and other relevant officers participated in meeting.
