KARACHI: Sindh Energy Minister Imtiaz Ahmed Shaikh said that injustices were being committed with Sindh in distribution of gas and electricity. Addressing press conference, he said that Sindh will not give up its right to new agreement between provincial and federal government on distribution of gas.
“Even half of total gas produced in Sindh is not available to people, which creates sense of deprivation among them,” he lamented. Imtiaz Sheikh said that many complaints of gas shortage were being received from parts of province. “Problem of gas shortage has been going on for many years and PTI government did not care about us,” as previous government did not buy gas when it was available on cheaper rates in international market. Now gas is expensive in international market. Sindh has solution to energy needs of country but province has been continuously neglected.
He said that Sindh is producing 2,100 mmcfd of gas and gas requirement of Sindh is 1,600 to 1,7000 mmcfd, while only 700 to 800 MMCFD gas is being given to Sindh. Sindh should be given representation in federal energy institutions. “Requests have been made for representation in Ogra, Nepra and other federal institutions,” he said. Prime Minister should consider our submissions and resolve this issue of Karachi. He said that industry in Karachi is being forced to buy expensive RLNG.
It will lead industry’s closure and unemployment. He said that there was news of suicide of a person fired from Karachi Electric. “If our demands regarding K Electric are not accepted, we will raise this issue in parliamentary forum as well,” he added. Imtiaz Shaikh said that Imran Khan had not been interested in resolution of gas and electricity crisis in country. He said that Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, as Foreign Minister is engaged in efforts to correct wrong policies of Imran Khan. “Better relations are being established again with friendly countries,” he added. To a question he said that Imran Khan’s long march and sit-in was a flop show.
