Lahore: PTI Chairman Imran Khan has welcomed Islamabad High Court’s (IHC) verdict to set aside Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP)’s decision to postpone Local Body elections in federal capital.
IHC Judge Justice Muhammad nullified ECP decision and ordered election watchdog to hold elections in 101 union councils of federal capital on its scheduled date on December 31 (today). Reacting to court’s verdict, Imran congratulated people saying that after IHC decision people of federal capital would be able to elect their local government and expressed hope that his political opponents will be defeated in polls.

“Unfortunately, a cabal of crooks is imposed on country and Election Commission is hand in glove with them PDM government and ECP always gives verdict against democracy,” he added.
Imran said that incumbent rulers are afraid of elections as they wanted to “Keep their hold on country”.
Imran reiterated his allegations that “Corrupt” PDM rulers were involved in horse-trading and trying to buy loyalties of PTI lawmakers using corruption money. “They are left with no option as people have rejected them. I strongly urge you to participate fully in municipal elections today,” he added. On Tuesday, ECP had postponed Local Body elections which were scheduled for December 31 in federal capital on grounds that number of union councils are being increased in line with boost in population.
On federation’s request, ECP cancelled schedule of LB elections and postponed them, saying that detailed decision would be issued later.
